What is the current whereabouts of Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub?
Previously, RAF convicted Daniela Klette was held for three months, alongside her two fellow members. For a while, she was considered a 'hot lead' in police investigations.
However, this has since changed, with LKA officials claiming the arrests of Klette's former companions, Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, have notproduced tangible results. On March 2, they confiscated Garweg's trailer home in Berlin's Friedrichshain but failed to apprehend him. Apparently, over 431 leads were received by authorities regarding Garweg, while the number of tips involving Staub stood at 327. Until recently, Klette resided anonymously in an apartment in Berlin.
Recently, pictures surfaced online depicting Garweg with his canines. These dogs, which the fugitive cherishes, have since sparked 94 further leads. Authorities have also seized numerous items from both Klette's apartment and the construction trailer site. The analysis of the acquired evidence is ongoing.
The trio, Klette, Garweg, and Staub are recognized as the 'third generation' of the left-wing extremist RAF, a group that claimed the lives of more than 30 individuals before officially disbanding in 1998. Currently, Klette is in the Vechta women's prison in Lower Saxony on remand, facing robbery charges. Investigators also think she might have wielded a firearm, potentially making her crime classified as attempted murder.
The head of Lower Saxony's State Criminal Police Office, Friedo de Vries, expressed confidence in the eventual apprehension of Garweg and Staub. Despite the absence of a 'hot lead,' he vowed to pursue every investigation with 'concentration and persistence.' "We have gathered lots of information on the wanted individuals than we had during previous decades of searching," he said.
The Verden Public Prosecutor's Office is handling Klette's case, while Klette's trial proceedings may take place at the Verden Regional Court if an indictment ensues. No definitive verdicts have been reached, but such an indictment is expected. In the meantime, the Verden District Court is assessing any potential risks arising from such a trial. They haven't revealed which courtrooms would host a hypothetical trial.
Additionally, Ferido de Vries stated, "I am still confident that we'll catch the two fugitives, Garweg and Staub. There are numerous leads we need to explore thoroughly." However, de Vries didn't deem any of these sightings "hot leads" as of this moment. "We'll approach every theory with utmost attention and won't give up," he said.

The investigation into left-wing extremism, specifically the activities of the RAF's 'third generation', including Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, has seen a significant increase in leads due to the online appearance of Garweg with his dogs. Despite the lack of a 'hot lead', authorities are persistently pursuing potential information, recognizing the threat of terrorism linked to these individuals.
