US actress - "We had to heal": Angelina Jolie talks about Hollywood and her divorce

Angelina Jolie now looks back on her successful Hollywood career with different and, above all, critical eyes. In an interview with the "Wall Street Journal ", the Oscar winner explained that, looking back, she would probably not choose a career as an actress again.

"When I started out, I wasn't expected to be in the public eye so much and share so much," explains Jolie. Although she grew up in Hollywood and her parents were also actors, the film industry never made an impression on her. "I never saw it as meaningful or important," says the 48-year-old. Hollywood is a "pretty superficial and not exactly healthy place".

Angelina Jolie wants to move away from Los Angeles

Jolie is toying with the idea of leaving Los Angeles altogether. She doesn't really have "a social life" there. "I've realized that my closest friends are refugees. Maybe four out of six women I'm close to are from war and conflict zones," she reveals. She also describes her six children as her "close friends". "They are the people who are closest to me and my life. We are seven very different people, and that is our strength."

Nevertheless, she can't always accompany her children everywhere because paparazzi follow them at every turn. She misses moving from one country to another like she used to. "That's part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the opportunity to live and travel so freely. I will move when I can," says Jolie. She hopes to be able to spend more time at her home in Cambodia in the future.

Divorce stress with Brad Pitt caused health problems

Angelina Jolie does not talk about Brad Pitt himself by name in the interview. She filed for divorce in 2016 after eleven years of dating - two of them married. It was officially finalized in 2019. Jolie hints at the strain the situation has put on her in recent years. "My body reacts very strongly to stress. My blood sugar rises and falls. Six months before my divorce, I suddenly had Bell's palsy."

The condition is caused by a viral infection and manifests itself as paralysis of one side of the face. Back in 2017, Angelina Jolie spoke about health problems in an interview with the magazine"Vanity Fair". "Women sometimes put themselves last in families until it affects their health," she said.

Things have not been much quieter around Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in recent years. The ex-couple engaged in a public war of the roses, fighting over their children and their shared Château Miraval vineyard in the south of France. In an interview with the "Wall Street Journal", Jolie hints that it took her and her children a long time to come to terms with the situation. "There are things we had to recover from. We had to heal," she says.

Jolie made similar comments in an interview with American Vogue back in September. At the time, the actress said: "We had a lot of healing to do. We're still finding our footing. I feel like I haven't been myself for a decade."
