Responses to Assault - "We are profoundly saddened and unified in our mourning"

Following the brutal assault in Solingen, where an individual wielding a knife took the lives of three innocent victims during a city celebration and left at least five others critically injured, political figures voiced their shock. North Rhine-Westphalia's Interior Minister, Herbert Reul (CDU), arrived at the scene late in the night and appeared visibly distressed. "Out of the blue, someone just stabs random people," Reul lamented. "We in North Rhine-Westphalia are deeply shaken and united in our grief."

Reul also cautioned against jumping to conclusions. "We can't make any assumptions about the individual or their motivations yet," the politician stated after getting a firsthand look at the chilling scene. "There simply aren't any concrete facts available for that."

Wuest Slams the Solingen Attack

NRW's Governor, Henrik Wuest, also issued a statement late in the night. On the "X" platform, he denounced the attack as an "act of senseless and brutal violence." The incident "has struck our nation deeply," Wuest continued.

North Rhine-Westphalia stands united in shock and mourning. "During these dark hours, the hearts and minds of our nation and beyond are with Solingen," the CDU politician added. "And: A heartfelt thank you goes out to the countless first responders and our police who are risking their lives to save others in these critical moments."

The Mayor of Solingen, Tim Kurzbach, addressed his constituents late in the evening via Facebook. "It breaks my heart that our city was the victim of an attack," he wrote. "I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost."
