Walk of Fame - US singer Darius Rucker celebrated with Hollywood star
Darius Rucker (57), who became famous as the lead singer of the US rock band Hootie and the Blowfish in the 1990s, has unveiled his star plaque in Hollywood. Rucker brought his three adult children and bandmates to the ceremony on the "Walk of Fame" on Monday.
He simply couldn't believe that he now had a star on Hollywood Boulevard, said Rucker. It was something he could only dream of as a teenager in South Carolina, when he wanted to be a singer.
In the mid-1980s, Rucker, Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld and Dean Felber came together as students and formed Hootie & The Blowfish. The quartet was one of the big winners of the music awards in 1996, winning three Grammy trophies. Their hit album "Cracked Rear View" has sold millions of copies. The band plans to tour North America again next year for the first time since 2019.
Rucker also pursued a solo career and released his first country album "Learn To Live" in 2008. His country hits include "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" and the song "Wagon Wheel", with which he won the Grammy for Best Country Performance in 2014.
The star for the black musician is located near the plaque of Rucker's mentor and friend Charley Pride. Pride (1934-2020) was the first black singer to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and became a star in the US country music scene.
