US rapper Meek Mill gives up smoking
Trend reversal in the rap scene: after Snoop Dogg, Meek Mill now also wants to put both cigarettes and joints to one side. His lungs are already damaged, the musician explains to his fans.
First Snoop Dogg, now the much younger Meek Mill: both rap artists have quit smoking and smoking pot. The 36-year-old Mill told his fans about his decision in person on the X platform. He was inspired by Snoop Dogg to change his lifestyle: "Snoop is starting the no-smoking challenge and we're joining in! It's not healthy for me!"
In another tweet, Meek Mill admitted that he was also doing this on medical advice. He already has a little emphysema and his doctor told him that smoking would "cut his lifeline in half". He was addicted to nicotine and the new type of marijuana contained far too many chemicals for him. It was simply "too risky to play with my mind", Mill continued.
Pulmonary emphysema is an over-inflation of the air sacs in the lungs that cannot be cured. Various lung diseases can cause this phenomenon, for example chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A major risk factor here is tobacco smoke, which can lead to inflammatory changes in the lung tissue. The symptoms of emphysema vary in severity, with sufferers usually complaining of breathlessness and shortness of breath. In a pronounced state, there may also be an increased cardiac load.
Reason for Snoop Dogg quitting smoking still unknown
Just a few hours before Meek Mill's post, 52-year-old Snoop Dogg had announced that he was no longer smoking. He shared a statement on social media and at the same time asked for privacy. Together with his family and after long deliberations and discussions, he had decided to stop smoking. It is not yet known whether Snoop Dogg also has health problems.
His heavy use of marijuana, which he also celebrated on stage, was one of the rapper's trademarks. He probably even employed an employee who was only responsible for making joints for him. In an interview with "GQ" magazine, he once stated that he smoked around 80 blunts, i.e. tobacco leaves filled with marijuana, every day.
Meek Mill's decision to quit smoking and using marijuana wasn't just influenced by Snoop Dogg's lifestyle change, but also by medical advice. His doctor warned that continuing to smoke could significantly reduce his lifespan due to his developing emphysema and the harmful chemicals in modern marijuana strains.Meek Mill's love for rap music led him to explore alternative forms of enjoyment, such as using entertainment platforms to connect with his fans and share his love for rap without relying on nicotine or marijuana.
