US parties vie for Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would not be the first actor to hold the office of US President. And indeed, many Americans would like to see him in the White House. The ex-wrestler has now revealed that both major parties have already expressed an interest in his services.

Hollywood heavyweight Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been talked about as a potential presidential candidate in the USA for some time now. In a survey published two years ago, 46% of Americans surveyed wanted the actor and ex-wrestler to hold the highest office in the United States.

The Hollywood star himself also considered a future candidacy in 2021 in an interview with "USA Today", "if that's what people wanted. Really, I mean that and I'm in no way flippant with my answer," he said at the time. Now, in a conversation with former "Daily Show" host Trevor Noah, he reiterated that the scenario wasn't just a pipe dream.

"I'll tell you something: At the end of 2022, I got visits from both parties asking me if I would run and if I could run," Johnson says in a new episode of Noah's podcast "What Now?". Representatives of both the Republican and Democratic parties had brought up the aforementioned poll. They also referred to their own research, which also showed that he would have a good chance of running for President of the United States.

Daughters have priority

In the meantime, however, the 51-year-old no longer seems to have any ambitions to move into the White House. "It was all very surreal, because that was never my goal. My goal was never to be in politics. In fact, there's a lot about politics that I hate," he explains in Trevor Noah's podcast.

In addition, his two daughters Tiana (5) and Jasmine (7) are currently his priority, Johnson emphasizes. Above all, he wants to "be a dad" to them and therefore do things differently for them than he did for his daughter Simone, who is now 22 and missed out on important life events due to his time-consuming wrestling career.

The interest from Hollywood and the USA in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a potential President is not new, with a survey showing 46% of Americans wanting him in the White House. Following this, representatives from both major political parties in the USA visited Johnson at the end of 2022, expressing their interest in his presidential run based on the survey results and their own research.
