Illegal activity - Unrest at Potsdam asylum facility leads to slain security guard.
In a grim attack at a refugee shelter in Potsdam, a security officer lost his life. Recently, the Potsdam police department launched a massive operation to secure the area following the incident. Theresia Jonitz, spokesperson for the Potsdam prosecutor's office, stated that the assailant is currently at large.
The location of the incident is in Geschwister-Scholl-Straße - a shared living space for asylum seekers. This building lies in the heart of the city's western region, near Park Sanssouci.
Authorities have been silent regarding the details of the event and any potential motives. A spokesperson for the city confirmed that Mayor Mike Schubert (SPD) is being kept up-to-date on the situation. Initially, the police reported that the security guard had received severe injuries, but it later transpired that he had succumbed to his wounds.
A large contingent of officers is investigating the crime scene. They were seen searching through a garden, looking behind bushes and trees. A police dog was even spotted along with several officers employed in white protective gear behind red-white barriers.
It's essential to note that in late February, there was a fire at the Potsdam-West communal accommodation. The police had to order an evacuation at the time.
