Queen Silvia of Sweden - United with the grandchildren around the Christmas tree
After the festive Christmas clip of Crown Prince Victoria (46) and Daniel (50), Queen Silvia (79) is now also creating Christmas cheer on Instagram. Together with her eight grandchildren, she has decorated a Christmas tree. A video shows the colorful hustle and bustle in the royal palace.
"Many thanks to the forestry students at SLU in Umeå for this year's Christmas tree delivery to the royal palace," writes the palace. SLU is the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Umeå is a city in the eastern Swedish province of Västerbottens län.
"Grandchildren are the dessert of life"
The clip clearly shows how familiar the children, aged between two and eleven, are with their grandmother - in her Christmas red checked blazer.
Documentary filmmaker and royal house expert Julia Melchior confirmed this indirectly in an interview with spot on news on the occasion of her TV portrait "Silvia. Sweden's German Queen" (in the ZDF media library): "When she talks about her grandchildren, you no longer see the Queen sitting in front of you, but a proud grandmother who talks about her grandchildren with joy and warmth." Queen Silvia also quoted: "Grandchildren are the dessert in life that you can simply enjoy."
Estelle (11) and Oscar (7) are from the Crown Prince and Princess. Alexander (7), Gabriel (6) and Julian (2) are the sons of Prince Carl Philip (44) and Princess Sofia (39). The parents of Leonore (9), Nicolas (8) and Adrienne (5) are Princess Madeleine (41) and Christopher O'Neill (49).
And the eight children also seem to have a good relationship with each other. As you can see in the video, the older ones like to help the younger ones carry and place the traditional tree decorations. This is probably a good omen for the family celebration, which will be held in Stockholm at the weekend before Christmas: Queen Silvia will be 80 years old on December 23.

The children, ranging from two to eleven, are seen decorating the tree with joy and familiarity, showcasing their close relationship with their grandmother. Queen Silvia once said, "Grandchildren are the dessert in life that you can simply enjoy." The grandchildren, including Estelle, Oscar, Alexander, Gabriel, Julian, Leonore, Nicolas, and Adrienne, seem to have a harmonious relationship, with the older ones helping the younger ones place decorations. The family celebration, scheduled for before Christmas, will be special as Queen Silvia turns 80 on December 23rd.
