United States averts accusations of genocide in Gaza
Israel is facing backlash for its acceptance of civilian casualties in its stance against Hamas; even accusations of genocide are being hurled. The US has now entered the fray.
The US government has backed the Israeli leadership against accusations of genocide against Palestinians amidst their fight against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, US President Joe Biden's National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, asserted, "We don't consider what's happening in Gaza as genocide." He further stated, "We've always firmly opposed that claim." Sullivan added that the US had conveyed their standpoint on the subject clearly and precisely to the International Court of Justice. He also highlighted the need for Israel to do more to safeguard the security and well-being of innocent civilians.
With the high number of civilian casualties in Gaza, Israel is being criticized for genocide in its war against Hamas in the coastal region. South Africa has filed a complaint with the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of violating the Genocide Convention. However, Israel staunchly denies the accusation.
Mounting criticism of Biden's stance towards Israel
The Israeli actions are deemed justified as self-defense in response to Hamas' terrorist attack on October 7 last year, which resulted in around 1,200 deaths and approximately 250 kidnappings from Israel. Palestinian casualties, on the other hand, are estimated at over 35,000.
The US government, specifically Biden, is facing accusations of aiding and abetting genocide through their military support for Israel. Protesters routinely disrupt Biden's public events with such demands. Additionally, some accuse Biden of undermining his critical ally by taking an increasingly harsh stance toward Israel. The mounting criticisms of Biden's approach on all fronts pose a significant challenge for the President amidst an election year. As evidenced by his appearance on Monday, Sullivan sought to clarify Biden's stance in the conflict at length.

The ongoing Israel war in the Gaza Strip has led to intense criticism of Israel's actions, with some accusing it of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip. In response, the Israeli government rejects these accusations vehemently.
Despite the violence and high number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip during the Israel war, the US continues to support Israel, refuting claims of genocide against Palestinians in the context of their conflict with Hamas.
