Unique Information: Pink to Conclude the DNC with a Show. John Legend to Perform on Wednesday Evening
On Thursday evening, it's reported that performer Pink will take the stage, preceding Vice President Kamala Harris delivering a significant political address, as per a source.
The day prior, on Wednesday, it's been disclosed that singer John Legend will be the main musical act, according to a different source speaking to CNN, set to perform before Governor Tim Walz's speech.
CNN has reached out to representatives for Pink and Legend, but as of yet, no response has been received.
No immediate comment was given by a DNC spokesperson in response to CNN's request for information.
This will be Pink's first significant politically-themed performance, having been vocal about various issues throughout her career.
Pink, known for her advocacy of LGBTQ+ communities and women's rights, has supported organizations that align with Democratic values such as Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign.
In 2022, Pink released a music video for her song, “Irrelevant,” which touched upon racism and sexism in America. The video incorporates themes related to reproductive health care, civil rights, and racial tensions. The lyrics include, "Girls just wanna have rights. So, why do we have to fight?"
In response to Roe v. Wade being overturned, Pink expressed her views on social media, stating, "If you think the government should interfere in a woman's uterus, a gay person's business or marriage, or that racism is acceptable – then PLEASE NEVER LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AGAIN.”
Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Pink partnered with PEN America, a free speech advocacy organization, to give away banned books at her concerts in Florida, where she claimed that free speech and LGBTQ rights were under threat. This occurred in November 2023, when Pink made a statement on an Instagram Live with the non-profit, stating, "I read banned books!"
Legend is no stranger to political activism, having long been a Hollywood advocate for the Democratic party. He has openly supported President Joe Biden during his tenure and endorsed Vice President Harris. In a recent interview, Legend mentioned that his daughter, Luna, who identifies as Black and Asian, sees herself in Harris.
Legend, who has already been present in Chicago for the DNC this week and headlined a show for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, also performed at the 2008 convention for former President Barack Obama and the 2020 DNC for Biden.
