Unemployment rate in the Palestinian territories almost doubled
Due to the war in Gaza, the UN labor organization ILO expects the unemployment rate in the Palestinian territories to almost double. It could rise to 46.1 per cent in the fourth quarter of this year, the organization and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) in the West Bank announced on Wednesday. This is the highest unemployment rate in decades. In the same period last year, the rate was reportedly 24 percent.
According to the ILO, at least 66 percent of jobs have been lost in the Gaza Strip alone since the outbreak of the war. This corresponds to 192,000 jobs. In the Gaza Strip, three quarters of the working population are currently out of work.
According to the UN organization, around 32 percent of the West Bank, which has a population of around three million, has also lost around 276,000 jobs.
276,000 jobs were lost.
The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel's history, carried out by terrorists from Hamas and other terrorist groups on October 7 in Israel near the border with the Gaza Strip.

Because of the ongoing Gaza war, the unemployment rate in the Palestinian territories is expected to significantly increase, potentially reaching 46.1% in the fourth quarter of this year. This surge in unemployment rate is largely attributed to the significant job losses in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, affecting nearly 470,000 individuals in total.
