Denzel Washington, aged 69, and his family made a seldom visit to the premiere of the movie "The Piano Lesson" at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10. This two-time Oscar winner, accompanied by his spouse Pauletta, 73, and children John David, 40, Malcolm, 33, and Katia, 37, graced the red carpet. Malcolm's twin sister Olivia was the missing family member.
For this special occasion, the Washington family opted for matching attires. Denzel and his sons donned black suits, while Pauletta and Katia wore pink and grey suits respectively.
"The Piano Lesson" - A Family Affair
The family had numerous reasons to rejoice at the premiere. "The Piano Lesson", derived from August Wilson's play, marks Malcolm Washington's directorial debut. Besides, his brother John David shares the screen with him in this musical drama. The film also stars Danielle Deadwyler, 42, and Samuel L. Jackson, 75, who is now an Oscar nominee.
"The Piano Lesson" narrates the tale of a black family in Pittsburgh during the Great Depression. Boy Willie (John David Washington) desires to sell the family piano due to economic hardships, while his sister Berniece (Deadwyler) desires to preserve it. Their uncle (Jackson) finds himself in the middle of this impasse. The film will stream on Netflix on November 22 and will screen in select US theaters from November 8.
Pauletta Washington Shares Intimate Moments
Pauletta Washington took this opportunity to share her perspective on her marriage with Denzel. Married for 41 years, she stated to "People" magazine, "There's no secret. It's a lot of work, a lot of prayer, a lot of forgiveness, and a lot of just basic love for each other."
Denzel first met Pauletta on a movie set in 1977. They tied the knot six years later, and their first son was born the subsequent year. John David initially gained fame as a football player but later shifted to acting.
