Ukrainian forces have retreated from the Kharkiv area.
Ukrainian soldiers have allegedly pulled back from numerous villages in the Kharkiv area, located in the northeast part of the nation, where Russian soldiers have been advancing for a week. In particular, troops have relocated to "better positions" near the towns of Lukjanzi and Vovchansk due to enemy fire and infantry attacks, the Ukrainian military shared on Wednesday evening. The goal was to safeguard "the lives of our soldiers" and avoid casualties.
The Ukrainian military is struggling under mounting pressure in the Kharkiv region, with a Russian attack in progress. Moscow reported taking control of another town in the area the previous day. Kharkiv city, situated approximately 30 kilometers from the border with Russia, has faced heightened shelling in recent months.
The battle for Lukyanzi and Vovchansk continues to be intense. These two settlements are about thirty kilometers apart and very close to the Russian border. The Ukrainian General Staff revealed that the circumstances in the area remained "still difficult" on Wednesday. Nonetheless, the army "will not let the Russian invaders gain a foothold." To prevent a Russian push through, additional troops were deployed in the region.
In light of the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has annulled a trip to Spain planned for Friday.
