Ukraine successfully blocks a limited number of Russian missiles.
The pleas of Ukraine for more air defense systems have gone unnoticed, with barely any progress made, even as daily deaths increase due to air strikes. Ammunition shortage is also causing concern as air force data analysis reveals Kiev's troops managing to intercept less than half of the Russian missiles in the previous six months.
Interception rates have dropped significantly, with 30% in April as compared to 73% in the same duration before. The Ukrainian clashes with Russian missiles have left civilians facing constant attack on infrastructure, leading to hundreds of deaths and injuries. Furthermore, military targets and energy infrastructure have been ravaged by the missiles.
Ukraine seeks Patriot air defense systems, especially during these life-threatening instances, but its allies seem reluctant. Germany has promised to deliver another unit, while Ukraine's staunchest ally, the US, has provided only one so far. Despite Germany's initiative to acquire more worldwide, no final agreements have been made.
Countries like Greece and Romania have cited their need for personal air defense systems considering their tensions with other nations. Greece wants to protect itself from Turkey, and Romania discussed the possibility of delivering a Patriot unit, only asking NATO to provide a replacement.
Inadequate Ammunition for Ukraine
Apart from the need for air defense systems, Ukraine is facing a dire need for ammunition as well. A Ukrainian soldier, reportedly spoke of the helplessness caused due to lack of anti-aircraft missiles, saying "the lack of ammunition is more terrifying than dangerous missions in Bachmut".
According to a recent report, air defense units' stock of ammunition had depleted during the attacks, and the falling rate (82% in the past six months) of interception of Shahed drones, used by Russia and relatively simpler to shoot down, is more alarming to Ukraine. The previous period had one percentage point more.

Despite Ukraine's urgent pleas for Patriot air defense systems to combat the ongoing Wars and conflicts, including the Attack on Ukraine, allies have been slow to respond with significant support. The lack of ammunition, particularly anti-aircraft missiles, further exacerbates the situation, leaving Ukrainian troops helpless and civilians constantly under attack.
