- U.S. Hip-hop Artist Detained in Las Vegas
Rapper Lil Baby, known as Dominique Armani Jones, faced arrest in Las Vegas. As reported by "People" magazine, court documents suggest that the Grammy-winning musician was taken into custody for carrying a concealed weapon without the necessary permit.
Las Vegas Metro Police confirmed to the outlet that the incident occurred on August 26, around 5:00 AM, leading to Lil Baby's arrest. The specific details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
Bail Granted, Court Date Set
In response to the arrest, Lil Baby's legal representatives shared their intentions to investigate the circumstances leading to the arrest, despite the artist holding a valid permit for concealed weapon carriage in Georgia. As per the report, while open weapon carry is legal in Nevada, the state does not recognize permits issued in other states, including Georgia.
It was subsequently reported that Lil Baby had secured his release from custody, paying a $5,000 bail. He is due to appear in court on October 1.
Previous Legal Troubles
This isn't the first brush with legal issues for Lil Baby. A series of arrests as a teenager, including a 2014 conviction for marijuana possession, resulted in a two-year prison sentence. Most recently, the musician was apprehended by French police during Paris Fashion Week on charges of drug possession, subsequent to which a fine was imposed.
Lil Baby's musical accomplishments are far-reaching, with chart-topping albums such as "Harder Than Ever" (2018), "My Turn" (2020), and "It's Only Me" (2022). His collaborative work with Drake and Nicki Minaj on "Yes Indeed" (2018) and "Do We Have a Problem?" (2021), respectively, and his Grammy-winning track "Hurricane" with Kanye West and The Weeknd (2022) have cemented his position in the music industry.
Despite Lil Baby's Grammy Award win, his recent incident at the Grammy Awards after-party in Las Vegas led to his arrest for carrying a concealed weapon without a valid permit in Nevada. After his bail was granted for $5,000, the Grammy-winning musician is scheduled to appear in court on October 1.
