Newly retired naval officer Klaus Gremme (Alexander Held) suddenly has time to think about what he has missed - for example, the long-lost contact with his son Thomas (Nico Rogner). Gremme travels to Lake Constance and stays with single mother Mona Tauber (Lisa Hagmeister), who lives within sight of his son and his family. Klaus Gremme is rebuffed there - Thomas thinks it's too late for paternal instincts. Whereupon Klaus develops a very special plan to win his son over. While he puts it into practice, he has to cope with Mona's improvisational lifestyle and her two children, the shy Linus (Xari Wimbauer) and the lively Claire (Amelie Gerdes) with Down syndrome.
