Television - TV documentary "Liberated Breasts" - how we could see them too
What is the real issue with a woman's breasts? The documentary "Free Breasts. A Quarrel, Object of Desire, Evolution's Enigma" on 3sat and in the Mediathek of the broadcaster, starting on Wednesday (11. July) at 8:15 pm, tackles this socially significant question. Why do women cover their breasts under clothing and not just show them, like men sometimes do in public?
"A completely toxic relationship with one's body"
Activists do it simply - in swimming pools, in the climbing hall, and everywhere where men also sometimes go shirtless. Because it's just more pleasant to take off your top when it's warm, says Aya from the initiative "Equal Breast for All Dresden" in the documentary.
"And depending on how big you've grown, you either don't care because you've always had to take your top off when you're warm," describes Aya. "Or it's like most women socially conditioned to feel: you can't." For her, this feeling can be a "completely toxic relationship with one's body," says the activist.
The 3sat documentary deals with the shame surrounding one's own bare breast, taboo, sexualization, and censorship, with various expert opinions. A psychologist, a sexologist, an artist for nipple art, and a breast-amputated woman provide insights.
Explanations without taboo
But there will also be scientific explanations from a doctor and a human biologist - for example, what real differences there are between the female and male breast and animal breast. Why female breasts look the way they do. How they are optimally stimulated. And why they developed in evolution in the first place.
Almost all explanations come from women, and the shown breasts are diverse and presented in a pleasant, non-sexualizing way. The documentary "Free Breasts. Quarrel, Object of Desire, Evolution's Enigma" draws viewers in with an unassuming and factual explanation - dealing fairly with a topic that affects the intimate sphere of many people. Almost taboo-breaking.
