Trump seeks support from donors following verdict announcement
After the verdict against Donald Trump came out, he attempted to turn it into political and monetary advantage. It seems like he succeeded, as the first major donors have revealed their intentions to contribute. The Biden campaign also urged its supporters to give.
The Trump campaign's team sent out emails, asking for contributions from his backers right after the New York hush money trial's conclusion. The email stated, "I am a political prisoner," and mentioned his donation website, "The Republican." It went on, "I was just convicted in a biased witch hunt legal proceeding: I've not done anything wrong," so with your help in this significant moment, we'll take back the White House and make America great again."
The initial donors have declared they will enhance their financial backing. Don Tapia, a previous ambassador of Trump in Jamaica, confided in Reuters, "We will fully and completely support him." He and a small group of family members and friends were planning to fund Trump with approximately $250,000 for this election; after the decision, the group plans to donate over a million dollars. Additionally, Shaun Maguire, a Silicon Valley tech investor who initially supported Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, proclaimed to X that he had given $300,000 to Trump. "I believe that our justice system is being utilized as a weapon against him," Maguire told Reuters.
The verdict might even benefit the Trump campaign beyond harm, as even the Democrats think so. The Biden campaign reached out to their donors, "Convicted criminal or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for the presidency," they wrote. Trump is anticipated to receive record amounts in donations due to the verdict and can subsequently use this money to promote his campaign. "If you've been waiting for the perfect moment to donate to Joe Biden's re-election initiative, today is the day," they added.
