Prince Harry - Trial for police protection begins

Prince Harry (39) continues to fight against the British Home Office's refusal to grant him police protection during visits to his home country. According to British media reports, the trial begins today, in which Harry's lawyers are challenging the landmark decision made by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) in 2020.

In May of this year, Harry suffered a defeat at the High Court in London. He is not entitled to police protection in the UK even if he were to pay for it out of his own pocket. However, the court had allowed him to have Ravec's decision reviewed.

But the current trial is about more fundamental matters. Harry's lawyers are questioning whether everything was above board in Ravec's decision three years ago. They argue that the royal family may have had a hand in it, wanting to get one over on the renegade prince, who had moved to the USA with his wife Meghan (42).

Private secretary on the committee: was the decision against police protection unfair?

Edward Young (57) was a member of Ravec. At the time, he was also the private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, who died in 2022, and then held this position with Harry's father, King Charles III (75). Today he is retired. As there are "significant tensions" between Harry and the royal family, according to his lawyers, Ravec's decision is biased and "unfair".

The hearing is scheduled to last three days. It is not yet clear whether Harry will appear in court in person.

During the trial, Prince Harry's lawyers will scrutinize the role of the royal family in the 2020 decision, suggesting potential bias against Harry, who moved to the USA with Meghan. Despite being a retired private secretary to both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III, Edward Young, a former member of Ravec, could be called to testify about the fairness of the decision denying Harry police protection.
