- Traumatic miscarriage on stage
American singer Halsey (29) has revealed a dramatic experience. In the "SHE MD" podcast published on August 6th, the "Lucky" singer stated: "I had a miscarriage during a concert. The miscarriage started before the show." Cancelling the performance was not an option.
She was in a "really difficult situation" that day as she was still at the beginning of her career and "had a lot riding on the show." "There was a corporate partner, there was a larger media partner, but what was more important to me was there were a thousand kids who had been waiting all day to come to the show and see me."
Lost a lot of blood
So, she went ahead with the concert despite feeling unwell. She "just put on an adult diaper." Luckily, the show was only set for 45 minutes. After leaving the stage, she had to throw up in the parking lot. "I went to a hotel and felt sick all night. I remember sitting in the bathtub because I didn't know what to do with all the blood," the artist, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, recalled. She bled for hours and could barely stand. Nevertheless, she boarded the next flight the following morning.
The concert was also filmed. Watching the footage is difficult for her. "It's weird because when I watch it now, I see myself looking really pale and sweaty, and my voice sounds different." Her voice was hoarse. "I sound and look like a different person."
Miscarriage evoked mixed feelings
She also found it difficult not being able to talk to anyone about the miscarriage. "Because at that time, I'd only heard stories about miscarriages from happily married women, and they usually only talked about it after they'd successfully gotten pregnant and carried the child." She felt "so alone" and also thought she should be able to carry a baby at 20 years old. At the same time, she didn't really want to be pregnant. "I was too focused on my career."
The singer had many "complex feelings" about the miscarriage, including relief, confusion, guilt, and grief. Now, the 29-year-old is a proud mother. In July 2021, she welcomed son Ender Ridley with her then-partner, screenwriter Alev Aydin (41). The couple's separation was announced in April 2023.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Halsey (29) chose to perform despite her miscarriage, explaining that she had a thousand eager fans waiting. Her dedication to her fans led her to put on an adult diaper and endure the concert, despite losing a significant amount of blood.
Halsey's miscarriage evoked a mix of emotions in her, including guilt and grief, but she also felt relief and a sense of relief due to her intense focus on her career at the time.
