Tragic death: 27-year-old casualty due to high-speed driving on Kurfürstendamm

Four individuals occupied a BMW late at night on a Tuesday when it collided with a concrete wall at a high rate of speed in the heart of Berlin. Unfortunately, one woman perished instantaneously, and a man involved in the tragic event has since succumbed to his injuries.

On Berlin's Kurfürstendamm, a third person succumbed to injuries sustained during a severe accident that occurred three days prior. A 27-year-old man passed away in the hospital on Thursday, as stated by the police department. The investigation into the cause of the violent crash is not yet complete.

On the fateful night, the BMW, carrying four passengers, was barreling down the Kurfürstendamm at an alarming rate before veering onto Tauentzienstraße, headed for Wittenbergplatz. The car then veered off the roadway nearby Marburger Straße. It swerved to the left out of its lane and collided with a concrete dividing wall. Upon impact, the BMW turned 180 degrees, stalled, and ignited.

Onlookers jumped into action, attempting to save the passengers before the fire department arrived. The woman died on the scene where she was trapped within the car. According to the fire department, she passed away in her vehicle while another passenger managed to escape severely wounded. Two other individuals were trapped inside the blazing car. A 20-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man are still receiving medical treatment. It was unclear who was operating the vehicle at the time.

A Mangled Accident Vehicle

Investigators suspect the incident was actually a "race" that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. Photographs from the scene showcase a seriously damaged white BMW, with the front taking the brunt of the impact. Emergency responders had to remove several doors to access the vehicle.

Kurfürstendamm is a notable street in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, boasting numerous shopping opportunities - and an unfortunately high frequency of car-related problems. The boulevard is well-known for "car posers" who regularly drive at unsafe speeds or with exceptionally loud vehicles. In 2018, a speed camera was installed along the Kurfürstendamm. Anonymous individuals wrecked it in October. The replacement device met a similar fate, most likely due to fireworks. In March of this year, a third device was introduced at Lehniner Platz / Cicerostraße to combat the deafening racket.
