- "Tragedy Prevented"
Following the surprising and shocking cancellation of the three Vienna concerts by US pop star Taylor Swift (34), scheduled for today, Thursday (8.8.), as well as 9 and 10 August at the Ernst Happel Stadium, Austria's Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer (51) spoke out on "X" late last night:
"The cancellation of the Taylor Swift concerts by the organizers is a great disappointment for all fans in Austria. The situation surrounding the apparent planned terrorist attack in Vienna was very serious. Thanks to the intensive cooperation of our police and the newly established DSN with foreign services, the threat was recognized, combated, and a tragedy prevented early on. Many thanks to the deployment forces who are currently investigating at full speed," he wrote.
As reported by, among others, the "ORF", the arrest of two terrorism suspects in Ternitz, Lower Austria, and in Vienna was known just hours before the cancellation. According to media reports, further suspects are being sought. However, the police did not confirm this. The Ministry of the Interior, on the other hand, confirmed that investigations are being conducted against further suspects. "Estimates expected around 170,000 fans on the Eras Tour in Austria," it also said in the report.
Taylor Swift Concert Cancellation by Concert Promoter
That the concerts could not take place due to an apparent planned terrorist attack was announced by the promoter, Barracuda Music, on Wednesday evening (7. August) on Instagram:
Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for the safety of all. Swift's management also shared the statement in its Instagram story.
The concerts in Vienna will apparently not be rescheduled. "All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 working days," it also says on Swift's homepage. Only a small consolation for fans who are expressing their shock and disappointment under various posts with great understanding, but also many tear emojis.
Taylor Swift herself has not yet commented on this (Thursday morning CEST).
The cancellation of the Taylor Swift concerts on Instagram by the promoter, Barracuda Music, was prompted by the confirmation of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium. Despite the sudden cancellation, all ticket holders will receive refunds within 10 working days, as stated on Taylor Swift's official website.
