Tori Spelling: Interview Before Shannen Doherty's Death

Rumors have circulated for years about old feuds between Tori Spelling and "Beverly Hills, 90210" co-star Shannen Doherty. After Doherty's death, Spelling expressed great joy at having had an important final conversation with the cancer-stricken Doherty. Another colleague couldn't.

From 1990 to 1994, US actresses Tori Spelling and Shannen Doherty (b. 1971-2024) worked together in front of the camera for the cult series "Beverly Hills, 90210" and were good friends during this time. After Doherty left the show due to internal tensions behind the scenes in 1994, rumors of disputes between the two actresses long persisted, which Spelling declined to comment on for years.

In 2019, the actress admitted in the YouTube podcast "Daddy Issues" that there was nothing to the rumors and that Doherty had always been one of her "best friends." Whether this statement, made 25 years after the last shared scene, means that there was never a real dispute remains uncertain.

Following Doherty's tragic death on July 13, 2024, Spelling spoke more openly about her last contacts with her friend and co-star in her own podcast "90210MG," which she co-hosts with her former "Beverly Hills, 90210" colleague Jennie Garth.

Spelling has experienced many deaths

During this broadcast, she told her co-host: "I have experienced many deaths in my life, and I don't believe in regret." In all these deaths, she had previously regretted not having had the time to "get a second chance to overcome the past and see all the good things and really talk about them and conduct this last conversation." With Shannen Doherty, this was fortunately different. "I feel like we had that, and I am very grateful for it," Spelling said.

Her colleague Jennie Garth responded: "I definitely thought of you, Tor, and how lucky you must have been to have this time with her and this deeper connection on a lower level, both of you having grown and learned so much." She wished she had had the opportunity herself, as she could not "really get together with her and have a deep conversation" before Doherty's death. She was, however, very happy that Spelling had been given this opportunity. There had also long been rumors of disputes between Garth and Doherty.

Tori Spelling had already posted an extremely emotional message on her Instagram account shortly after Doherty's death. In it, she wrote: "In a world where we often don't have the opportunity to recapitulate the childhood friendships that have such a big impact on the adults we become, we have been given this chance." And she added: "I am grateful that @theshando and I, as adult friends, could travel back in time and remember why we really loved each other from the start. Dwelling in memories. And again, we can laugh so iconically like before. No one could make me laugh like that."

In the aftermath of Doherty's passing, Hollywood was abuzz with tributes and reflections, many highlighting the impact of her death on the entertainment industry. Among these, Spelling's heartfelt words about their final conversation gained significant attention, bringing light to the complexities of their on-screen and off-screen relationship.

Despite the numerous death cases that Hollywood has had to cope with, Spelling's unique sentiment towards her late friend stood out, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation and closure even in the face of adversity.
