Top model Irina Shayk: "I hated being a girl"
In her own words, top model Irina Shayk did not feel a real connection to her body as a child. "I always thought I was born in the wrong body," the 37-year-old told the fashion magazine "Elle".
"It wasn't that I wanted to be a boy, but it felt like I didn't belong to my body." While her sister was interested in hairstyles and make-up from an early age, she herself pressed her lips together to make them look smaller. "I hated being a girl," explained Shayk.
At the time, she argued with her mother, who would have preferred to see her in floral clothing, while Shayk felt more comfortable in darker colors. In fact, her father, who died when Shayk was 14, had always wanted a boy, explained the Russian-born actress.
Despite her mother's preference for floral clothes, Irina Shayk favored darker outfits, expressing a stronger connection to fashion that aligned with her identity. Moreover, Irina Shayk, as a top model, has openly shared her past struggles with feeling misplaced in her girlhood, often disliking the societal expectations associated with being a girl.
