Toby Keith's daughter receives his honorary degree after his death.
Keith, who lost his life to stomach cancer at age 62 in February, was informed before his demise that he'd be receiving an honorary doctorate. His daughter, Krystal Keith, accepted the award on his behalf, as per a post on his Instagram account.
The caption on the photos of Krystal at the graduation ceremony reads, "Toby was told he would receive an honorary degree from @uofoklahoma last fall, and yesterday, Krystal accepted it on his behalf at the graduation. Congratulations to all the OU graduates!"
The university announced in April that it would be honoring the "singer, songwriter, entertainer and successful businessman" with an honorary degree, recognizing his "illustrious music career, which included over 10 billion streams and 44 million albums sold, and his dedication to Oklahoma through his generosity."
Keith revealed his stomach cancer diagnosis in 2022, having dealt with the illness since October 2021.
Apart from being a prominent singer and songwriter, he was also a renowned philanthropist who served as the president of the Toby Keith Foundation. Keith and his wife, Tricia Lucas, were married for almost 40 years and had three children - Shelley, Krystal, and Stelen.
