people - Tobias Moretti is 65: Joy over actor son Lenz
Austrian actor Tobias Moretti is proud of the artistic development of his son and colleague Lenz Moretti. "He has an enormous dramatic imagination, and to that comes sovereignty, craftsmanship - and he has a completely unique individual approach", the father explained, who celebrated his 65th birthday on a Thursday.
Father and son are currently appearing together on stage at the Tiroler Volksspielen in Telfs in Kleist's "The Broken Jug". "At work, we encounter each other as colleagues, we prepare ourselves separately for our roles", Moretti said in a written interview with the German Press Agency. "During rehearsals, it's really enjoyable to see Lenz's development."
Moretti, who became famous in the 90s as a detective in the TV series "Commissar Rex", has also worked with his daughter Antonia for the "In the Net of the Camorra" films (2021-22). Recently, Tobias Moretti shot the ARD improvisational comedy "The Wedding" and the TV crime series "Steirermord".
Salzburger Festspiele and Shanghai Theater
This summer, work on the stage is taking center stage. Moretti is not only performing in Telfs, but also at the Salzburger Festspiele, where he played the title role in "Jedermann" between 2017 and 2020. "I can hardly imagine a summer without the Festspiele, I actually work at some event every year", said the Artist, who, with his wife Julia Moretti, also runs a farm in his native Tirol.
This year, Moretti is taking on a speaking role in a concert performance of the works "Il canto sospeso" and "Il prigioniero" at the Salzburg Festival, where resistance against Fascism and oppression is the focus. In June, Moretti performed in Shanghai in a guest appearance by the Vienna Burgtheater in Sartre's "No Exit". The audience was very enthusiastic, the actor reported. "It may have been the piece that impressed the people: the Hell as a prison, surrounded by a huge gray wall", he said. "For us, a diverse, independent, and free-thinking cultural life is almost self-evident; here we were reminded again of what a richness we have in Europe."
He sees his 65th birthday as no special jubilee: "I've never celebrated my birthday in a grander way, maybe that's because I always had my birthday in the summer holidays when everyone was away."
