Cinema - Tim Burton: sequel to "Beetlejuice" has been shot
The long-planned "Beetlejuice" sequel is in the can. He has just finished filming, US director Tim Burton (65, "Batman", "Alice in Wonderland") announced on Instagram. In the post, he thanked everyone involved. Due to the actors' strike in the USA, many film productions were temporarily halted. The strike was recently settled and filming has resumed since then.
36 years after the surprise hit "Beetlejuice" (1988), the sequel is due to be released in cinemas next September. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara are back on board. New additions include Willem Dafoe, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux.
The original horror comedy revolved around a deceased couple (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) who want to stay in their mansion. They hire the crazed poltergeist Beetlejuice (Keaton) to scare off the new residents(Ryder as the teenage daughter) who have moved in.
At the start of filming in June, Keaton (72) told the movie website "Empire Online" that it was "so damn funny" to improvise and make things up on set. He hadn't had this much fun at work for a long time.
