The screening of Pedro Almodóvar's movie "The Room Next Door" at the Venice Film Festival was a huge hit. The movie, starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton as two pals, got a prolonged standing ovation - the longest in the festival's history, according to "Variety".

On Monday night, Moore and Swinton delivered an impressive show at the Venice Film Festival. The premiere of "The Room Next Door" resulted in a sustained applause, with the standing ovation going on for 17 minutes. This is a record that no other film has managed to achieve at this prestigious event.

Once the film concluded, Almodóvar affectionately kissed Swinton and Moore on their cheeks and elevated their arms in triumph. He then descended the Sala Grande Theater stairs with his new ladies of honor, prolonging the applause by greeting fans in the cinema for an additional 14 minutes.

Both leading ladies were radiant on the red carpet as well. Swinton opted for a elegant Chanel suit with a long jacket, while Moore chose a sparkling golden-sequined dress. Despite the rain, the two 63-year-olds maintained their spirits.

"The Room Next Door" outshined other films such as "The Brutalist" by Brady Corbet (12 minutes), "Maria" by Pablo Larraín (8 minutes) starring Angelina Jolie as the renowned opera singer Maria Callas, and "The Order" by Justin Kurzel (7 minutes), a '80s crime suspense film featuring Jude Law.

"The Room Next Door" is Almodóvar's debut English-language feature film. Moore takes on the role of a bestselling author named Ingrid who rekindles her relationship with her former friend Martha, played by Swinton. Martha is a war correspondent battling a serious illness and undergoing numerous treatments. This predicament forces Ingrid to confront her own mortality as well. The film is slated for release in German cinemas on October 24.
