Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish was arrested early Friday morning (local time) on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in Beverly Hills. This was announced by the Beverly Hills Police Department, according to CNN. Police received a call at 5:45 a.m. and the 43-year-old was taken into custody shortly afterward, a police spokesperson confirmed to the network. Haddish was reportedly performing at the Laugh Factory comedy club's Thanksgiving fete in West Hollywood on Thursday night.
The actress was not involved in an accident, but is said to have fallen asleep at the wheel. As "TMZ" reports, police were told during the call that a person had pulled over on Beverly Drive and leaned over the steering wheel while the car's engine was running. Haddish is now apparently expected to be charged with DUI.
"I need to improve my pleas to God"
The comedian has previously been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and improperly stopping in the roadway. In the early morning of January 14, 2022, she was picked up in Georgia by Peachtree City police officers. According to People magazine, officers had received an emergency call around 2:30 a.m. about a driver who had allegedly fallen asleep at the wheel on Highway 74.
On the way there, officers spotted a car matching the description of the 911 call and made a traffic stop. "The subsequent investigation resulted in Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol," police stated to the magazine. As reported by CNN, shortly after the incident in Georgia, Haddish jokingly stated in an interview with Jimmy Fallon, "I can say, Jimmy, I prayed to God to send me a new man, a good man. And God sent me four in a uniform. I wasn't expecting that." She said she has a really great lawyer with whom she will work things out. "I need to improve my pleas to God," Haddish added at the time.
Despite the comedy and light-heartedness she usually brings, Tiffany Haddish's time in Hollywood hasn't been entirely devoid of legal issues. She was recently arrested for alleged DUI in Beverly Hills, adding to her past incident in January 2022 in Georgia.
