Three out of four Palestinians view the Hamas massacre in Israel positively

According to a survey, three out of four Palestinians view the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7 positively. In addition, just as many believe that the campaign by the Israeli armed forces in the Gaza Strip strengthens support for the radical Islamic organization in the coastal strip and the West Bank. This is the result of a survey published on Thursday by the renowned Palestinian Center for Political Polling and Research (PCPSR).

According to the survey, 72 percent said that Hamas' actions in October were "correct", while 22 percent said the opposite. Likewise, 72 percent of Palestinians surveyed stated that they supported Hamas, 52 percent in the Gaza Strip and 85 percent in the West Bank. In contrast, only eleven percent expressed satisfaction with the Palestinian Authority (PA) of President Mahmoud Abbas. Hamas has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, while the PA has limited control over the West Bank.

In the West Bank, which is partly occupied by Jewish settlers, support for Hamas has more than tripled since the start of the war, according to the survey. Violent clashes between Palestinians and Jewish settlers have occurred repeatedly in the area west of the Jordan River. The USA and the European Union have already condemned the settlers' violence.

On October 7, Hamas fighters killed around 1,200 people in Israel, most of them civilians, and abducted around 240 hostages in the Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian figures, more than 18,000 people have been killed in the Israeli retaliatory campaign so far. Most of the approximately 2.3 million inhabitants have had to leave their homes. According to the PCPSR survey, 64 percent of Palestinians questioned stated that a member of their family had been killed in the Israeli attacks.
