Talkmaster and Comedian - This is the last time": Ellen Degeneres surprises with an announcement
"Ellen's Last Stand...Up Tour" is the title of Ellen DeGeneres' current running Stand-Up Comedy Tour and apparently it means what it says. Fans have been speculating for a while that this name could mean that the popular American comedienne and talk show host is retiring from public life - and they were right.
At an event at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa, California, DeGeneres made it official. "This is the last time you'll see me. After my Netflix Special, I'll be done," the 66-year-old declared and announced her exit from the entertainment industry.
Ellen DeGeneres and the Prominents – she met almost all of them
For 19 years, from 2003 to 2022, Ellen DeGeneres was the host and moderator of the "Ellen DeGeneres Show". A talkshow that can look back on 19 seasons and on whose chair countless high-profile celebrities have taken a seat. Leaving the show, however, was anything but happy. In the background were reports of misconduct in the production environment. Employees and staff of the show accused leading producers of racism, sexual misconduct, and bullying. After internal investigations, three producers left the show.
DeGeneres also spoke out about the allegations at the time and admitted that as a boss, she may have been too demanding and impatient. She emphasized, however, that it was never her intention to harm others.
Her final work before retirement will be a Netflix Special. During her current comedy tour, she is being accompanied by a film crew. The release of the Special is planned for 2025. After that, the Talkmaster will disappear from the screens. Besides memories of impressive conversations and TV moments, Ellen DeGeneres hopes that as a lesbian woman who fought against prejudices in the industry for decades, she has encouraged people to stay true to themselves.
Following her controversial exit from her long-running talk show due to misconduct allegations, Ellen DeGeneres is set to conclude her career with a stand-up special on Netflix.
Despite ending her talkshow and career-ending her time in the public eye, Ellen DeGeneres remains hopeful that her career, particularly as a lesbian advocate in the entertainment industry, will leave a lasting impact on others.
