Pop singer Sonia Liebing - This is a must for her at Christmas

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, pop singer Sonia Liebing (34) explains why Christmas is so important to her, how she prefers to spend the festive season with her family and which Christmas traditions she cherishes. She also looks back on her year 2023 and reveals her resolutions for 2024.

How are you celebrating Christmas this year and how important is the holiday to you?

Sonia Liebing: We're celebrating Christmas with the whole family, all under one roof as usual. It's the only celebration in 365 days where the whole family really comes together, and that's very, very important to me, which is why I look forward to it.

What do your two daughters think of Christmas?

Liebing: Like every year, my children look forward to Christmas. They are also happy that the family gets together and that there are presents, of course.

What is your favorite thing to do with them during Advent and Christmas?

Liebing: Our favorite things to do are baking cookies, redecorating the house and enjoying the coziness of Christmas and the early evening hours. We like to watch family or Christmas movies together.

Have you got all your presents together yet?

Liebing: Of course I haven't got a single present yet. I always do everything at the last minute.

What must be on your Christmas menu?

Liebing: We traditionally have Polish or Silesian food. Small dumplings called uszka, filled with sauerkraut and mushrooms, are a must. They are accompanied by beet and mushroom soup. Mushroom soup is a must on Christmas Eve.

Are there certain Christmas traditions that you keep year after year?

Liebing: One Christmas tradition that I've known since I was a child is wishing each other well with the holy wafer and giving the other person a hug.

Do you also listen to certain music at Christmas time?

Liebing: Of course, I also love listening to Christmas music. There are many children's songs that remind me of my childhood, which my children now listen to, such as "In der Weihnachtsbäckerei". There are also one or two English songs such as "So this is Christmas", "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and "Wonderful Dream" by Melanie Thornton, which are at the top of my list.

You recently released the Christmas single "Fire in the Fireplace". Do you also fancy a Christmas album?

Liebing: As I don't have a Christmas album yet, it might be time to release one. Who knows? Never say never.

You released your album "Liebe ist für alle da" at the beginning of November. What are the most important messages you want to convey with the album?

Liebing: The most important message is that everyone has a very special place on this earth, no matter what you look like, what religion you belong to, what faith you have, who you love, whether you are fat or thin. It's time for us to take each other by the hand again and lead the way with love, because love is for everyone.

What else were your highlights in 2023?

Liebing: My absolute musical highlight this year was my first own release concert. There has actually never been an album release concert from me in recent years. I was really looking forward to it, but I was also very tense, but I really enjoyed the time with my fans and loved ones.

And how will you be celebrating the turn of the year?

Liebing: We'll probably be spending New Year's Eve with the whole family and good friends.

What are your wishes for 2024 and what resolutions do you have - on Instagram you hinted at wanting to play an instrument?

Liebing: My resolutions for next year are actually to learn to play an instrument and of course I wish for peace on earth not just for 2024, but for the next millennia.

What can your fans look forward to in the coming year, what are you planning?

Liebing: The last few years have shown me that you can't plan too much. Nevertheless, things are continuing musically and I'm looking forward to the future. I'm planning a small tour of my own and hope that works out. Apart from that, I'm grateful for every appearance on TV shows and at festivals. There will of course be new music and I'm already working on my album 4.0. My fans can look forward to all of this in the coming year.
