- These stars are dropping their covers
For the 50th edition of the legendary Pirelli Calendar for the year 2024, Ghanaian artist Prince Gyasi (29) set supermodels like Naomi Campbell (53) and Idris Elba (51) in vibrant and relatively demure scenes. For the Pirelli Calendar 2025, American photographer Ethan James Green (34) is opting for more bare skin and unusual names.
Under the theme "Refresh and reveal" ("Reevaluation and Revealing"), Green consciously returns to "classic sexiness" - not least to redefine and update this term in the wake of #MeToo.
Experimental Return to "Classic Sexiness"
In an interview with "The Guardian", the renowned fashion photographer said: "I think you know that #MeToo really forced everyone to pause, which is a good thing. And I think much of what became sexy was what we started seeing on social media, usually through selfies." His shoots for the upcoming Pirelli Calendar aimed to "start from scratch, but also figure out how it makes sense today."
Now that Pirelli has released initial impressions of the completed shoots and the names of the participating stars, it's clear that Green's concept has also influenced the selection of the protagonists. Among the portraits are celebrities like US actress Hunter Schafer (25), known for her role in HBO's "Euphoria" and her activism for LGBTQ+ rights.
Androgynous Looks from Calvin Klein Model Jenny Shimizu
US model Jenny Shimizu (57), known for her extremely androgynous look, also presents herself in front of the camera to explore contemporary forms of sexiness and gender identity. Other female Pirelli stars include actress Simone Ashley (29, "Bridgerton"), model Padma Lakshmi (53, formerly married to author Salman Rushdie), and British actress Jodie Turner-Smith (37).
Joining them are male Pirelli models like British "Star Wars" star John Boyega (32), French actor and film producer Vincent Cassel (57, "Black Swan"), and photographer Ethan James Green himself. The official images for the Pirelli Calendar 2025 are set to be released later this year.
