Katy Perry - The US-stars are attracted to Saint-Tropez

Every year, the summer draws numerous celebrities to the French coast. Saint-Tropez, in particular, is legendary as a hotspot for world stars - this summer, several big names have already spent time in the small village on the Côte d'Azur. Among them are Amal (46) and George Clooney (63), Katy Perry (39) and Orlando Bloom (47), as well as Zac Efron (36).

Hollywood was already there

Pictures, among others from "Hola!", show the Clooneys hand in hand on their way to lunch at one of Saint-Tropez's most popular restaurants a few days ago. Katy Perry and her fiancé Orlando Bloom made several stops in this noble town during their European trip and sailed with their daughter in the sea. Zac Efron vacationed with friends in Saint-Tropez at the beginning of July, as did Michael Jordan (61) with his wife Yvette Prieto (45). Jared Leto (52) and Sofia Boutella (42) visited the famous "Club 55" on July 11th and strolled through the harbor.

In the past, Saint-Tropez and especially its marina have offered a home to almost the entire roster of world stars. Leonardo DiCaprio (49), Kate Moss (50), Beyoncé (42), Rihanna (36), Sylvester Stallone (78), or the Beckhams have all vacationed here.

It started in the 50s

There are many beautiful places along the Côte d'Azur, but none attract celebrities like Saint-Tropez. This is largely due to the glamorous aura that the village has been radiating for decades. Once upon a time, Saint-Tropez was just a small, insignificant fishing village- yet Roger Vadim (1928-2000) chose exactly this place in 1955 for the filming of his movie "And God Created Woman". In the lead role was none other than his then wife Brigitte Bardot (89), who became an icon overnight through the film and embodied the French way of life perfectly.

Vadim's example was followed by other filmmakers and Saint-Tropez became the setting for films such as "The Gendarme of St. Tropez" (1964) with Louis de Funès (1914-1983) and "The Swimming Pool" (1969) with Romy Schneider (1938-1982) and Alain Delon (88). Artists, painters, and intellectuals from Paris settled in Saint-Tropez in the 60s. This made the place world-famous and let the party life flourish in the already legendary "Club 55".

Gunter Sachs finished it off

Gunter Sachs' (1923-2011) marriage to Brigitte Bardot, which lasted from 1966 to 1969, put the final touches on Saint-Tropez's transformation into a popular destination for the rich and famous. Millionaire Sachs, then "the most famous playboy in Germany", brought glamour to the small harbor town with his antics like raining roses from a helicopter over Bardot's house.

Gunter Sachs was an influencer before the term even existed and made Saint-Tropez a new mondaine lifestyle. This magic that the town on the Mediterranean Sea with only around 4,000 inhabitants has not lost to this day.
