The upcoming Baldwin-starring western film titled "Rust" will make its debut in Poland.
During the filming of the Western "Rust", cinematographer Halyna Hutchins sadly lost her life in 2021. Three years later, the movie, starring Alec Baldwin, is set to debut at the "Camerimage" film festival in Poland, as confirmed by the festival organizers. Director Joel Souza is supposed to be present, but as of now, there's no information regarding Baldwin's potential attendance.
The film is scheduled for its first screening in November, having been three years since Hutchins' unfortunate demise during production. According to the festival organizers, Hutchins had initially wished to exhibit the film at this event in Poland, making it a heartfelt tribute to her legacy.
Hutchins, hailing from Ukraine, sustained a fatal injury while working on the film set in October 2021. While handling a prop gun during a rehearsal, producer and lead actor Alec Baldwin accidentally discharged it. The prop Colt revolver contained a live round, striking Hutchins and wounding Souza in the shoulder. Later investigations revealed this unfortunate truth.
Armorer Gets 18-Month Jail Term
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, in charge of weapon safety on set, was handed a 18-month prison sentence last spring - the maximum penalty - for involuntary manslaughter. The mystery surrounding how live ammunition managed to appear on set remains unsolved. Both Gutierrez-Reed and Baldwin have consistently denied any liability for the fatal incident. Baldwin also faced involuntary manslaughter charges in a separate trial, but the case was shockingly dismissed in July. Baldwin's lawyers accused the prosecution of withholding evidence and engaging in unethical practices.
Gutierrez-Reed's petition for early release was rejected by Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, who also declined to authorize a new trial.
Production Restarts
"Rust" production recommenced in 2023 in the US state of Montana, under the direction of Souza. Matthew Hutchins, Halyna's husband, served as an executive producer. Bianca Cline took over from Hutchins to continue her work.
The upcoming "Rust" premiere is also expected to discuss issues such as on-set safety measures and the significant role of cinematographers in the movie industry.
