The United States perceives Russian satellites as a potential threat.

Russia deploys a satellite into orbit, sparking US concerns. The object has been flying alongside an American satellite for several days. Military officials believe it may be a Russian weapon.

As per the United States, Russia has launched a satellite that could potentially be used as a weapon. Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder mentioned that the observed missile is in low-Earth orbit and could possibly target other spacecraft. There have been similar Russian launches in 2019 and 2022.

The Russian satellite has been occupying the same orbit as a US government satellite since May 16, according to Ryder. When asked if the object posed a threat to the US satellite, he affirmed, "Well, yes, it's a space defense weapon in the same orbit as a US government satellite."

US Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood previously held similar opinions to Ryder. During a session in New York on Monday, a Russian resolution to ban an arms race in space was voted down in the UN Security Council. Seven countries voted in support of the draft resolution, while seven nations opposed it - one of the negative votes came from the US. In light of a previous failed American resolution regarding nuclear weapons in space that was vetoed by Russia, Wood accused Moscow of employing manipulative tactics.

In February, reports about Russia's nuclear intentions in space caused a commotion. The nuclear capabilities were believed to be aimed at satellites, potentially endangering both national and international security. In response, the US government declared that Russia was developing military capabilities to be used against satellites. Joe Biden, the US President, assured at that time that there was "no nuclear threat to the people of America or anywhere else in the world." However, Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the allegations, emphasizing that Russia was against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space.
