The UK government plans to establish a minimum age for sex education in educational institutions.

The UK's Conservative government is allegedly planning to set a minimum age for sex education classes in schools. This information was shared by the BBC and other outlets on Wednesday, citing government sources.

If these plans go through, sex education would only be allowed to start at the age of 9 years old. The curriculum would no longer include topics about trans identity. Recently, The Times claimed that sex would not be a topic of discussion in schools until students were 13 years old.

Conservative Secretary of State Chris Philp didn't directly respond to these reports. In an interview on Times Radio on Wednesday, he said he didn't want young children to learn about sexual content in the classroom too early. When questioned about trans identity, Philp stated that it was "a controversial political idea that should not necessarily be treated as fact." He also happens to be the person in charge of policing.

Teachers criticized the government for trying to use the issue as a political tool. Sex education is not taught before the sixth grade in any case, said Rebecca Leek, head of the Suffolk Association of Primary School Headteachers, in a conversation with the BBC. A primary school principal from the Yorkshire region's Rotherham town labeled the move a "political exploitation of the issue."
