Isabel Gose and Lukas Märtens - The swimming stars are no longer a couple
Bye-bye: German swimming stars Lukas Maertens (22) and Isabel Gose (22) split up just before the Summer Olympics in Paris. Gose revealed this in an interview with the "Bild" Newspaper: "Yes, that's the past, we have separated." The two had been in a relationship for roughly four years and trained together at the Federal Support Center for Swimming in Magdeburg, the state capital of Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.
The "difficult decision" was made jointly, as Gose added: "We understand each other well. For our families, it was a shock. They would have liked to see us together longer." The reason for the split, according to the swimmer, was simply that it no longer worked out. They still see each other daily and train in the same group in Magdeburg.
Lukas Maertens and Isabel Gose are favorites in Paris
Both swimmers have medal chances for Paris according to experts. They have already been European champions in their flagship event, the 400 Meter Freestyle. The native Berliner Gose won a Silver and two Bronze medals at the World Championships in Doha this year.
The Magdeburger Maertens won a Bronze medal at the World Championships in Fukuoka last year. Both competed as a pair at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021 (postponed from 2020 due to the Corona Pandemic).
