The SPD calls for authority over employees similar to Krah.

A previous associate of AfD politician Krah is under suspicion of spying for China in the European Parliament. The interior ministers of the SPD aim to avoid similar occurrences in the future through security clearances. Additionally, they seek to enhance the punishment for bribing parliament members.

The SPD's interior ministers in both the national and state governments are pushing for a stricter stance against the AfD. according to a paper distributed for a ministerial meeting on Monday in Ohrdruf, as reported by "Spiegel." They state, "To protect parliament's integrity, individuals connected to constitutional adversaries and other extremists must be efficiently barred from access to rooms, secret papers, and information."

The event to be attended by Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and her social democratic counterparts from the states features discussions on defending democracy and combating extremists. They publicly endorse "the proposals that call for the disclosure of parliamentarians and party members, as well as, if necessary, their security checks, including consultation with Germany's domestic intelligence service."

Moreover, the interior ministers of the SPD are advocating for the establishment of legal grounds for the Bundestag police. This potential law could also dictate the scopes of security clearances for administrative personnel. "The AfD is working to undermine democracy from within," says Thuringia's Interior Minister Georg Maier to the magazine. "If extremists are admitted to parliaments as staff, we must erect a barrier."

On another topic, the SPD's interior ministers call for the intensification of the law against bribing parliament members and the creation of a new offense regarding the unlawful representation of interests. Their impetus stems from the scandals concerning AfD candidates Maximilian Krah and Petr Bystron in the European elections.

In addition, they support the deterrence of access to democratic establishments by "constitutional adversaries," suggesting an evaluation of increasing restrictions at election time, such as those involving incitement to hatred or displays of symbols belonging to constitutionally hostile groups.
