George Clooney (63) gave an interview to the "GQ" magazine with his friend and "Wolf of Wall Street" co-star Brad Pitt (60), where they discussed Quentin Tarantino (61). Clooney addressed a less flattering comment that the director had supposedly made about him.
Is George Clooney not a movie star?
"Quentin recently said something about me that kind of threw me off," the actor said about Tarantino, whom he starred with in "From Dusk Till Dawn" in 1996. "He did an interview where he was talking about movie stars, and he mentioned you [Brad Pitt] and someone else, and then he said, 'Well, what about George?' He said, 'He's not a movie star.' And then he said something like, 'Name me a movie since the millennium.' And I thought, 'Since the millennium? That's pretty much my entire fucking career.'"
After Brad Pitt laughed at the anecdote in the interview, Clooney jokingly said, "Now I think, 'Okay, man, fuck off.' I don't have a problem giving him shit. He's done it too." In a more conciliatory tone, Clooney added, "But no, we're really lucky to have worked with these great directors. Directing and writing are what keep you alive. And I learned that after making some really bad movies. You can't make a good movie out of a bad script."
Clooney also had strong words about another director in the interview. The actor worked with David O. Russell (65) on the satirical war film "Three Kings" in 1999, and it was previously known that there were conflicts on set. "I only want to work with people who enjoy what they do," Clooney said in the interview. "The older you get, the more important your time becomes. Five months of your life is a lot. It's not just about making a really good movie like 'Three Kings' and then having a miserable ass like David O. Russell making my life hell, and everyone else in the crew's life hell. It's not worth it. Not at this point in my life. Just to have a good product."
In the same interview, Brad Pitt commended George Clooney's response to Tarantino's comment, stating, "George handles it so well." Later, when discussing directors they've worked with, Pitt mentioned, "George and I have both had the privilege of working with Quentin Clooney mentioned earlier, as well as David O. Russell."
