Renowned golfer Rory McIlroy is engaged to Erica Stoll. - The separation is called off.
In a shocking twist, Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy (35) and his wife Erica Stoll (35) are not moving forward with their divorce proceedings. Rory had initially filed for divorce in May but has since withdrawn the request.
Deciding on a united future together
The cancellation of the divorce was made official when McIlroy's lawyer filed a notice of voluntary dismissal at the Palm Beach County Court on June 11, which then led to the case being dismissed. The golfer recently spoke to the "Guardian" about the state of his marriage, saying, "There have been a lot of rumors about my personal life, which is unfortunate. I don't want to respond to every rumor because it's a waste of time. In the last few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future is as a normal family. We've settled our differences and are looking forward to a fresh start."
A sudden breakup followed by a sudden change of heart
The decision to cancel the divorce was unexpected, much like the announcement of their separation just a month earlier. While Rory was preparing for the PGA Championship in Kentucky, Erica Stoll received the divorce papers at their home in Jupiter, where their marriage was described as "irretrievably broken." Rory filed for joint custody of their three-year-old daughter Poppy and enforcement of a prenuptial agreement they signed before their 2017 wedding.
The hearing gave Erica a 20-day period to file a counterclaim, which would have allowed the court to grant the divorce if she failed to do so; however, the "Daily Mail" reports that she neither made a response nor hired a lawyer by the deadline on June 2.
