"The Last of Us" - The second season has a fixed production start
The double strike in Hollywood, in which both screenwriters and actors had been on strike for months, has been over for some time now. This means that numerous film and series productions finally have planning security again - including the highly acclaimed HBO series "The Last of Us". According to US industry website "Variety", showrunner Craig Mazin (52) has now revealed the specific date on which the second season of the dystopian end-time series will go into production: Accordingly, the long-awaited starting shot will be fired on February 12, 2024.
High praise from audiences and critics
The series adaptation of the video game of the same name by Naughty Dog thrilled HBO audiences at the beginning of the year and was the second-best series launch of the past decade for HBO after the "Game of Thrones" spin-off "House of the Dragon". Season one also achieved an impressive 96 percent positive rating on the review aggregation site "Rotten Tomatoes".
It is therefore not surprising that the series starring "Star Wars" hero Pedro Pascal (48) and Bella Ramsey (20) from"Game of Thrones" was already renewed by HBO during the broadcast of the first season.
But there is still a long wait ahead - until 2025?
The aforementioned double strike by screenwriters and actors earlier this year put paid to an early production start for season two. But even with a fixed production start in mid-February, the broadcast of the second season will still be a long time coming: The lavishly produced first season required a full 200 days of filming. It can be assumed that season two will take a similar amount of time. As a result, the new episodes are not expected until early 2025 at the earliest.
