The process of cleaning up commences post-flooding.
The town of Saarbrücken has maneuvered through the flood crisis and lessened its major destruction notice. As clean-up operations start in the state capital of Saarland, water levels keep increasing elsewhere. In Blieskastel, locals needed rescue by a rubber dinghy.
In the flood-stricken areas of Saarland, threats had not been eliminated by evening. The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance announced a flood alert for Bliesmengen-Bolchen and Habkirchen. The Blies swelling its banks "considerably" meant "serious flooding" would follow. The Blieskastel flood situation remained on edge, per Saarländischer Rundfunk's (SR's) report.
While Saarbrücken's prominent city revoked the significant damage warning once more, the water levels decreased, as the city announced on its website. The key focus is now on tidying up after the catastrophe. The electricity supply throughout Saarbrücken improved substantially, as SR reported, citing the local utilities.
In Blieskastel, 20 kilometers east of Saarbrücken, water levels touched the knees in some locations, according to SR's update. A few residents were taken from their homes with the aid of rubber dinghies. Numerous rescue teams and volunteers gathered for support.
In the evening, Saarland's Premier Anke Rehlinger from the SPD party visited the location to understand the scenario, as indicated by the SR webpage.
The Blies has crested
The district of Saarpfalz disclosed an elderly home in Blieskastel was evacuated in the evening. Nearly 80 individuals required aid. The district explained the flood in Blieskastel's town center resulted from an outdated pumping system. This erroneous device pumped the water upwards through the sewer system.
The Blies hit its peak now, indicated the SR. The fire department predicts the water level to decline significantly by nightfall.
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the city of Zweibrücken and the Südwestpfalz district faced major flooding consequences, detailed SR. The Schwarzbach and Hornbach rivers in the center of Zweibrücken reached historically high amounts in particular cases. The State Office for the Environment branded it a once-in-a-century flood.
