Ex-national player in court - The proceedings against Boateng continue - end in sight?

The Munich I Regional Court is dealing with this Friday (10:00 am) further on assault charges against former national player Jérôme Boateng. In the fourth proceedings of this lengthy case, it could be approaching its end. The presiding judge, Susanne Hemmerich, had requested the prosecution, plaintiff, and defense to prepare their closing statements.

If it comes to that, the next hearing day in the coming week could see the verdict. However, there are still more witnesses to be summoned. However, the defendant's mother will not testify as planned, as a justice spokesperson confirmed. Previously, "Bild" reported that she intended to exercise her right to refuse testimony as the mother of the accused and was therefore recalled.

Lengthy Proceedings

Boateng's ex-girlfriend accuses him of assault during a shared Caribbean vacation; the ongoing proceedings against the long-term defender of FC Bayern Munich, who recently transferred from the Italian Club US Salernitana to the Linzer ASK in Austria, have been dragging on. The Munich Magistrates Court had already imposed a fine on Boateng in 2021: 60 fines of €30,000 each, totaling €1.8 million.

The Munich Regional Court I convicted Boateng in October 2022 in the second instance for bodily harm and defamation to a fine of 120 fines of €10,000 each - a total of €1.2 million. However, the Bavarian Higher Regional Court quashed the judgment due to persistent legal errors.

Charge: Assault during Caribbean Vacation

The allegations at the core of the matter date back several years: Boateng's ex-girlfriend accuses him of attacking her in 2018 during a shared Caribbean vacation. She stated that the 35-year-old threw a windlight and a cooler box at her. Later, he spat at her, pulled her hair, hit her in the face with both hands, and bit her in the head. She cut herself on the shards of the broken windlight, suffered hematomas, and abrasions. He threatened her that if she reported him for the incident, he would ensure that their common children would end up in an orphanage.

Boateng denied the accusations of his ex-partner from the beginning of the new proceedings. He claimed that he had only defended himself against an attack by his then-partner and pushed her away. He apologized for the push. In his detailed statement before the court, he spoke of a "nightmare" and denied the assault charges.

Recently, a re-examination hearing between the prosecution, defense, and plaintiff, which could have led to an earlier end of the proceedings, failed.
