For more than a decade, Hannes Hellmann has portrayed Police Chief Wolf Haller in the ZDF series "Emergency Room Harbor Front". With his 70th birthday approaching on October 25th, it's time for him to retire this iconic character. Hellmann is officially leaving the show.

In the ZDF crime drama "Emergency Room Harbor Front", Wolf Haller has been the face of the PK 21 in Hamburg for many seasons. But this tradition is set to change. Actor Hannes Hellmann has announced his departure from the highly-rated television series.

According to a ZDF spokesperson, Police Chief Wolf Haller is retiring "deservingly", a testament to the character played by Hellmann since 2007, with the series spanning 18 seasons. Hellmann himself shared with German newspapers "Munich Mercury" and "tz" that the decision to leave after an incredible decade of "amazing collaborations with talented colleagues both in front of and behind the camera" wasn't easy, but he now feels the urge to "start anew in a different way".

"A Pleasant Farewell"

The upcoming season of "Emergency Room Harbor Front" will premiere on September 26th. The final episode featuring Wolf Haller as the station chief is expected to air in February 2025. Hellmann remained tight-lipped about the details of his character's departure, but he did hint at it being "very endearing, beautiful, and even lovable". "I'm really excited about it."

Hellmann joined the crime series in 2013 and has been a regular since then. However, a few colleagues have been part of the series since its inception. Sanna Englund and Rhea Harder-Vennewald, for instance, have played Melanie Hansen and Franziska Jung since the first episode, as has Fabian Harloff as the role of Dr. Philipp Haase.

Besides "Emergency Room Harbor Front", Hellmann has also appeared in numerous films and television productions since the 1990s. He often appears in guest roles in the ARD crime series "Crime Scene" and "Police 110".

The character of Police Chief Wolf Haller, played by Hannes Hellmann, has been a staple in the ZDF series "Emergency Room Harbor Front" for 18 seasons. Despite his departure from the show, fans can look forward to seeing his final episodes later in 2024.
