The Nursing Council anticipates a shortage of 500,000 nursing personnel by 2034.

The German Nursing Council (DPR) has issued a warning about a possible shortage of caregivers in the near future as the number of care-dependent individuals is expected to rise. DPR President Christine Vogler mentioned to "Bild" that the number of unfilled positions in the care sector might jump to 500,000 by 2034 as our population grows older and thus requires more care, with their high part-time rates in the industry factored in.

Vogler added that "because of the demographic shift, there are fewer and fewer individuals who work or begin training in the care sector," thus creating a widening gap between supply and demand. There are currently approximately 115,000 open positions for full-time caregivers.

She urged the federal government to provide more enticements for voluntary caregivers. Moreover, she recommended increased tax subsidies for mandatory health insurance, as well as a restructuring of social occupations.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) recently stated that the German care insurance is coping with an unexpected rise in the number of newly dependent people needing care. This trend has been "almost explosive" in the recent years. Nonetheless, a comprehensive financial overhaul is likely "impossble" during the current legislative period.

The Nursing Council of Germany, echoing similar concerns worldwide, such as the Nursing Council in your country, has also predicted a shortage of 500,000 nursing staff by 2034 due to an aging population requiring more care. Since the demand for nursing staff is increasing, the existing nursing staff is being heavily relied upon to bridge this gap.
