The Norwegian government restricts entry for Russian tourists.
Norway is shutting down its boundaries to Russian tourists, denying them their remaining direct path to the Schengen region. This measure, which was announced on May 29th, aligns with Norway's stance of "supporting its allies and partners in response to Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine," as explained by Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl.
As per the authorities, certain exemptions may apply to Russians working or studying in Norway, as well as for visits by close relatives to the Scandinavian country.
Norway is part of NATO but not the EU. The European Union had previously ceased its visa facilities for Russians in September 2022, citing the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February of the same year as justification.
Since spring 2022, Norway has virtually ceased issuing tourist visas to Russians. Those who had previously obtained a long-term visa from the Norwegian authorities or could provide a visa from another Schengen country were the only ones allowed to pass through the Storskog-Boris Gleb border post, the only crossing point between the two nations.

Tourists from Russia may be affected by Norway's travel restrictions, as the Norwegian government has largely stopped issuing tourist visas to Russians since spring 2022. This measures aligns with the country's stance of supporting its allies in response to Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, as stated by Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl. Importantly, certain exemptions may apply for Russians working or studying in Norway, as well as for close family visits.
