Evelyn Thomas - The music world mourns the singer
After the news of Evelyn Thomas' (1953-2024) passing, fans and colleagues bid farewell to the singer. On social media, it is said in a post by her daughter of the deceased US star, who shared a series of personal photos reminding her of her mother: "She was the best, I danced to many moves to her music" or "It's so sad.... Your Mum is gone, but her music will never die...". Another user stated: "I have always loved Evelyn's music, it is connected to my memories of the 80s."
Evelyn Thomas, who shaped the Hi-NRG scene in the 1980s, was 70 years old. The singer from Chicago had a major international hit in 1984 with the single "High Energy". In 2022, the magazine "Rolling Stone" included the song in the list of the 200 best dance songs of all time.
Farewell from Discoverer Ian Levine
Her discoverer Ian Levine (71), who found her in the 1970s, said via Social Media after her death: "It's hard for me to accept that my lifelong protege has really left us." He added: "Her music will live on with us all."
Ian Levine continued in his farewell post that he had not had contact with Thomas since the last recording session in 2009. A few months ago, she had turned to him "in love", knowing she was dying.
When Levine and his co-writer of "High Energy", Fiachra Trench (82), learned of this, they dropped everything to write a final song for Thomas titled "Inspirational". The singer was, however, already too sick to record the song, now her daughter Kimberly intends to record it as a memory of her mother.
