The Climate: A Forecast - The most sweltering spring ever recorded.

In the spring of 2024, Germany experienced its warmest season since temperature records began in 1881. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach announced that the spring temperature reached 10.8 degrees, making it 3.1 degrees higher than the internationally recognized reference period of 1961-1990.

When compared to the current and warmer comparison period of 1991-2020, the deviation was 1.9 degrees.

Uwe Kirsche, a spokesperson for the DWD, said, "We can't ignore climate change." He added, "After the warmest February and March this year, spring in Germany has now boasted the highest average temperature ever recorded." Furthermore, there were numerous instances of heavy rainfall, particularly in May, which followed intense thunderstorms. These torrential downpours caused disastrous flooding in the Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate regions. However, parts of eastern Germany remained fairly dry.
