Pochers - The most spectacular celebrity break-ups of 2023
The fact that there seemed to be a hail of celebrity break-ups at times in 2023 was probably due to the fact that the nerve-wracking lockdown phases of the previous pandemic periods put even stable relationships to the test. But of course there were also numerous other reasons that prompted German and international celebrities to hang up their partnerships for good this year.
Iris and Peter Klein deliver celebrity rose war of the year
The year of separation 2023 began in January with the ongoing marital drama surrounding Daniela Katzenberger's (37) mother Iris Klein (56) and her third husband Peter Klein (56). Iris accused her partner of being unfaithful to her on the sidelines of the jungle camp in Australia and of cheating on her with presenter and former Miss Germany Yvonne Woelke (42). The ensuing mud-slinging was to keep the tabloids busy for the rest of the year, not least when the two had to spend some time together under the same roof again on the reality show "Promi Big Brother" in November. As Peter Klein has so far refused to sign the divorce papers, the two reality celebrities are still married.
Public showdown with the Pochers
Oliver (45) and Amira Pocher (31) had a similarly bizarre war of the roses in 2023. After publicly celebrating their relationship for three years on their joint podcast "Die Pochers!", they announced their separation on this channel on August 31 after a seven-year relationship and four years of marriage. Amira told fans: "We thought this was probably the best way to say it: We're separated". Shortly afterwards, Oliver Pocher continued his podcast series with his ex-wife Sandy Meyer-Wölden (40) of all people - under the new title "Die Pochers! Freshly recycled".
German TV stars switch to divorce
An astonishing number of other relationships between German TV stars broke up, especially at the beginning of 2023. Power talker Markus Lanz (54) separated from his wife Angela Gessmann (41) after twelve years of marriage, "Let's Dance" presenter Victoria Swarovski (30) separated from her husband Werner Mürz (46) after six years of marriage and TV starlet Sylvie Meis (45) separated from artist Niclas Castello (45) after just under two and a half years.
Celebrity designer Harald Glööckler (58) and his partner Dieter Schroth (74) lasted much longer, spending a whole 35 years side by side until they announced their separation to Bild newspaper in mid-February. The break-up of musician couple Johannes Oerding (41) and Ina Müller (58), who had lived together for twelve long years, also caused general consternation.
Slippery slope with Kevin Costner
A number of prominent couples also parted ways on the international stage. By far the most headlines were generated by the end of the relationship of Hollywood star Kevin Costner (68), whose wife Christine Baumgartner (49) unexpectedly filed for divorce in May 2023 after 18 years of marriage. In the cinematic war of the roses that followed, the couple bickered mainly over child support and custody of their three children. The dispute, which was fought through lawyers, escalated when Costner insisted that Baumgartner move out of the Californian family home and eventually had her thrown out by court order.
Hollywood's model marriages come to an end
Also after 18 years of marriage, the actor couple Tori Spelling (50) and Dean McDermott (57) decided to go their separate ways in June of this year. Shortly afterwards, Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman (55) and Deborra-Lee Furness (68) also announced the end of their 27-year marriage, which had already come apart at the seams during the nerve-wracking Covid lockdowns. Her colleague Meryl Streep (74) caused a surprise when she made it public in October that she had already separated six years earlier from the sculptor Don Gummer (76), to whom she has been married since 1978 - and will probably remain so.
Pop stars go in search of new partners
In addition to long-standing actor marriages, quite a few love affairs of well-known music stars also broke up in 2023, although all of them were much shorter-lived. Kylie Minogue (55) and her boyfriend Paul Solomons (47) lasted a comparatively long time. After going through five years of celebrity life together, their partnership finally came to an end due to the difficulties of a long-distance relationship, which the two found themselves in when the singer moved back to her native Australia in early 2022, leaving the former "GQ" creative director behind in London.
US superstar Taylor Swift (33) spent six years together with British actor Joe Alwyn (32). In April, the two amicably said goodbye to each other, but the singer, who has since been named "Person of the Year 2023", is now making headlines with a new liaison with football player Travis Kelce (34).
